NATO Specified the Condition of Ukraine’s Accession to the Alliance
Conversation on the entry of Ukraine into NATO is possible only after carrying out reforms of the Armed Forces in the country and bringing them up to the standards of the alliance.
This was declared by the chief representative of NATO in Ukraine Alexander Vinnikov.
“Now the President has defined that a priority for Ukraine is reforms (of the Armed Forces) for the achievement of the principles and standards of NATO. Only after this will be done will it be possible to raise the question of membership,” he said.
Earlier, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko reported about the intention to hold a referendum on the entry of Ukraine into NATO. He claimed that now the idea of membership of Ukraine in the alliance is supported by 54% of inhabitants.
At the same time, according to poll of the American institute of public opinion Gallup, 35% of respondents in Ukraine consider NATO to be a threat, 29% think that it offers no protection, and 26% have a neutral opinion of the alliance.
