BREAKING: Fire is approaching power plant and nuclear waste repository (VIDEO)
According to State Emergency Service of Ukraine the fire approached Buryakovka village.
"It is 13 km away from the station itself. It's one of the most polluted areas. There is a nuclear waste repository not far from there. There are the so called "plutonium spots" — and one must remember that the plutonium is one of the most dangerous elements, it affects human hematopoietic system. Under normal conditions the element remains inactive and safe for people but in the wind or fire plutonium particles may be lifted in the air for one meter and be carried for long distances", — reported Chernobyl museum manager deputy Anna Korolevskaya.
Meanwhile the National Guard forces have been engaged for fire extinguishing according to Ukrainian Internal Minister Arsen Avakov.
It's been said in Kiev that some officials (parliament and government members) have been evacuating their families.
