Merkel criticism over Crimea parade plans
German Chancellor Angela Merkel has expressed criticism over the plans of military parade in Crimea, which has become a part of Russia as a result of referendum among its people. The parade is meant to commemorate USSR's victory over fascist Germany and will be held on 9th of May, among speculations that Vladimir Putin will attend the parade.
This day has always been very special for Russia, reminding of the victory over National Socialism (another name of fascism), Merkel was quoted saying on 6 May after meeting Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades in Berlin.
She also mentioned her attendance of such a parade in Moscow 4 years ago, in order to demonstrate importance of historic lessons. "But I wish this day was not used for parade in the middle of such tension and conflicts", she added.
Angela Merkel also said that the government of Germany is doing everything possible for settling the Ukrainian crisis in a diplomatic way, and would not engage into sanctions against Russia, unless it's Russia who forces Germany into further counteraction.
