Russia's Ministry of Emergency Situations is starting to form its next relief aid convoy for embattled eastern Ukraine, a ministry spokesman said on Monday.

Trucks with humanitarian aid for citizens of Donetsk and Lugansk Republics is to leave rescue center in Moscow region on Tuesday (Feb. 24) bound for southern Russia's Rostov region, where the convoy will be formed in Donskoy rescue center, the spokesman told TASS news agency.

"Trucks from Noginsk will be joined by vehicles from other Russian regions," the spokesman said, adding that the convoy would deliver foodstuffs, medicines, daily necessities and other essential items for citizens affected by military action in the war-torn region.

Relief supplies from Russia should "help stabilize the situation and prevent a humanitarian catastrophe," it added.

Since mid-August last year, Russia’s convoys have delivered more than 20,000 tons of relief supplies.
