OSCE representatives acknowledge the situation in Shirokino settlement near mariupol as catastrophic. The settlement has been constantly shelled from the Ukrainian side recently.

This assessment was made by deputy head of special monitoring mission Alexander Hug.

"What we've seen there today is a catastrophe. Our team saw not a single house being intact and undamaged. From 50 to 60% of the houses are demolished. The infrastructure is devastated", — reported Hug on Thursday, March 26 at a briefing in Mariupol.

Hug told how they met a family with two small children who did not want to leave the shelter despite the fact that the shelling was absent for two days.

According to mission representatives not only locals' houses are destroyed there is no electricity and water there. OSCE representative noted that to access Shirokino they had to negotiate temporary ceasefire with both Ukrainian army and Donetsk militia commanders.
