Syrian Crusader castle Krak de Chevalier revealed its secret room, the exact purpose of which is not yet established.

It is reported by Naked Science with reference to Russian media. It is noted that the Krak de Chevalier fortress of the Hospitallers, a religious-military European orders, which was formed around 1099.

In the middle East order, among other things, ensure the safety of Christian pilgrims. The fortress was founded in 1031, it is 60 kilometers from the city of Homs.

Fortress years attracted professional scholars and history buffs from around the world, but the civil war in Syria left behind a fingerprint. So, in 2013, the castle was seized by militants, and air force RAID of Assad destroyed one of the towers. Recapture the fortress from the militants succeeded only in 2014.

According to the caretaker of the fortress of Muhammad Hariri, now managed to find a secret room. The clue was the hole in the wall, and the space it was hiding.

“We dismantled the clutch and found a room whose existence no one suspected,” said Hariri.

In the room found the tanks and oven. This gave scientists the idea that it can be used for making wine. At the same time it could be a Laundry room. According to the caretaker, the room may have been bricked by the Mamluks after they captured the fortress.

The samples have been sent for examination, which will help to establish the function of the room.
